hi! so feel free to not answer this if you aren't comfortable/don't wanna. i just wanted to know how you feel as a not-cis person going to hollins (since they have a ridiculously transphobic policy about transitioning, etc)? i identify as trans* and it makes me kinda uncomfortable to think about going there next year, but i am and i guess i'm just wondering your thoughts on it??

hi, friend!

i love hollins, but it also confuses me a lot of the time. especially in terms of my personal gender identity.

the trans* policy is a load of bull, but there are groups/people on campus taking action to change it. students here are generally cool about understanding/respecting trans*/non-binary stuff, so in that regard, please do not be afraid of coming here.

we even now have a gender neutral bathroom in our dining hall (on the upper level, but hey, it’s progress!) thanks to student efforts.

hollins is very big on the words “sisterhood”, “women”, “ladies”, and “girls”. addressing groups is often really gendered, and it’s icky. i’ve noticed a lot of underclassmen get pulled into that as well—they go fucking buckwild about calling everyone their sister. sometimes it makes me laugh, but mostly it makes me cringe.

you’ll be safe here though, don’t worry.
